First of all, where is March going?
I am really glad that it is "officially" spring but I have no idea where the last 21 days have gone.
Last week we celebrated O's big # 4 with several celebrations. The official day was late in the week: Daddy went to school with O (it was the first time), it was green day (now reported as O's favourite colour), we had homemade pizza ( YUM!) and O got a really cool surprise from Nana and Grandad (more on that later). It was a great day however, to our birthday boy all that seemed to matter was his buddy party. To him, this was were the real celebration would happen. In fairness this year we did make a big deal over having a birthday party (vs a playdate with 6 friends) . I "closed" sections of our house (I was happy with this move) limited toys, and set up a few party games that I hoped all party guests would enjoy before the regular free play. I also did not include the younger siblings of the "buddies". I sound like such a hag, but I think it worked better. The party was fun, the cake easy to make, the lunch prep super simple, decorations easy to find and make, and the two games ( digging for treasures, and a piƱata) were successful ( with both boys and girls). Here are some highlights from our party...lots of construction ideas on pinterest.
Now back to the Nana and Grandad's surprise. For a few months my little man has been visiting a certain little house every time we go to Costco. On visits to the house he would make meals, invite other children over, clean the dishes, ring the doorbell (it works) and picnic at the adorable table. One afternoon I was at Costco with my parents and it became quite clear to Nana and Grandad that this (if parents agreed) would be a very good addition to our backyard. The house was purchased last weekend for their grandCHILDREN ( O does not hold the only key) and ever since it arrived in the garage we ( parents and grandparents alike it seemed) were excited to make the reveal a surprise. It took a few nights to assemble and one night we were up till 12:30. Nevertheless with the help of out neighbour the house was hoisted over the fence and put into position in time. The photo below is O coming around the corner. His reaction was was not a jumping up and down and screaming one, instead it was more of a " ahh...finally the house from Costco is where it belongs" He rang the doorbell, entered with a smile, opened the shutters and has been making meals and entertaining guests ever since.
This is the house. The flower boxes are absent and the picnic bench at the time of this photo was not yet assembled. In other news....
~ A lot of my recent blog post have been about O, but rest assured the other little man in my life, now 11 months old, is a very busy and keeping everyone on their toes. New and risker moves are forcing fast barricades to be created. I am absolutely utterly floored where the last year has gone and can not believe we will soon be celebrating 1 year.
~ Tonight is sewing night. I have a few new projects on the go. I hope to get most everything completed by early summer, leaving the summer months virtually sewing room free.
~Last night I let my husband dry needle my leg. I have been suffering (complaining) for a long time and last night he frankly forced it upon me. I am not sure it was the immediate relief I was hoping for, but he promises a few more treatments and a lot of new strength exercises and I can run my next race close to pain free. Now all we need is for the wind to die down and completing a run would be a lot more enjoyable.
~ We have registered for two races and training this time is proving to be a lot more tricky.
~No update on return to work plans. Maybe I am not returning.....??? We shall see.
With this I will say goodnight..I am off to the sewing machine and my hot tea!
First, I think your party was super cute. And my girl came home quite enamoured with her hard hat!
ReplyDeleteSecond - the house is awesome. No flowerboxes needed. I'm sure A and O will happily spend summer evenings decorating the house with petals from your garden (remember that last summer - lol!)
Lastly - Thanks for the fun sewing night and all the quilting input (definitely helpful and needed!) And for my London Fog fix :)
