Thursday Thoughts on Saturday Night.

A few weeks ago I wrote a blog entitled "Thursday Thoughts". I had a few questions I was interested in people's perspective on. I got several great replies back and so I thought I would do it again.

1. Last weekend I sat down at my Mom and Dad’s piano with my little boy and I quickly realized I could not put together a few notes to play a song from memory. I used to be able to play a few songs anytime I wanted. After I realized my musical memory was gone, I tried reading some sheet music. Surely I could remember a few notes. NOPE! I felt very silly. For a time I even knew how to play the alto saxophone and the clarinet.

I would love to be able to play the piano again. Realistically, I just want to be able to play a few simple songs, and read music again. So this brings me to my first question. If you could ( time and money aside) what class(es) would you take? P.S. I would also take a photography class.

2. Today we went on a great long walk down into the park by our house. I wish we would do this more regularly. Bringing me to my next question, What family outing do you wish you could do more often? Or what outing would you like to try? In addition to more park walks, I would like to go skating more often, and use our snowshoes a few more times each year. In the future I am very excited for family ski trips ( not excited about the expense with this one)

3.We recently got a new speaker for our home. I am really enjoying listening to music in my kitchen (now that it is no longer coming out of the computer speakers) but I am craving new music. What is your favourite songs to listen to at the moment?

4. As we have just come through another fantastic holiday season, I find myself reflecting on a few things I would like to do different next year. I have not quite made my mind up on everything yet, however these are a few things.

-I would like to change up our Christmas Eve dinner.

-I would like to start the holiday season earlier ( I felt like I decorated and took it all down too fast this year)

-I would like establish a few special events, things, gifts that we will do every year. Predictable but meaningful.

What would you do? Anything different? Any new things you want to try?

5 And finally..this one is to make sure we all remind ourselves of the great jobs we are doing. Life is a little hairy sometimes. So..What is the thing you are most proud of doing this past week? For me, it would be trying 3 new recipes and getting them on the table for my boys to eat ( only 1 boy really liked them..haha..oh well). Be proud and BRAG! I want to hear how amazing each of you are!

Look forward to reading your comments. Have fun reflecting!

  1. ACK! I've been a total blog checking deliquent! And a bad friend to boot - I thought about you on your b-day but forgot to pass along birthday wishes. Glad you had such a wonderful day! You deserve it :)

Onto your questions (love these btw)!

    1. Classes - I'm with you on the photography class, I would also love to take a class on painting. And if I could find the time, would start my violin lessons again.

    2. Outings - We would love to swim more often. Specifically getting to a lake. In a perfect world we would love to live in a lake community. Maybe one day.

And the other outing...running. I miss running. A lot!

    3. Favorite songs - Chris just downloaded a new band from Vancouver. Will get you the names of a few of their songs. Really good!

    4. We too had a fanastic holiday season - probably our best to date. Would like even more time as an immediate family on Christmas Day. But think we will stick to a small stocking and one gift under the tree. I was so pleased with how that turned out.

Another thing we did was let our 2 year old paint on a canvas and got her 2 little hand prints - I think we will make this a habit every couple of years. Would be so cute to have multiple canvases with different sized hand prints on display as artwork.

    5. One thing I am proud of - and this may sound totally ridiculous, but going private with my blog. My MIL sent me the best e-mail which has become my mantra for this year:

There comes a point in your life when you realize:

    Who matters,
    Who never did,
    Who won't anymore...
    And who always will.

Don't worry about people from your past,
There's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

I feel like I've started this year with my priority on investing in the people who mean the most to me - family & friends. It has meant making specific decisions and going private with my blog has been one of them.

***ok - do I get some sort of award for longest comment ever?! :)

  2. Here are my two cents...

    1. A class I would like to take would be....a knitting class to learn some new skills

    2. Family outing would be continue teaching Taylor how to skate, and swimming.

    3. Favorite songs...well I am not too much of a music person so I am not going to comment on this one...however I do like putting on kids music and watching Taylor shake his little bootie!!

    4. I would like to have a christmas morning with just the three of us...I look forward to using my new advent calendar next year.

    5. What I am proud of is...scheduling a much needed play date for Taylor and mommy to catch up with their buddies. I decided laundry and grocery shopping could wait, and I am glad I did!!!

  3. 1. If I had the time, I'd love to take a painting class. I haven't done one for over 3 years! yikes. I'd also like to regularly attend a yoga class. I miss this too!

    2. Outings: I'd like to try to take more overnight trips to different places.

    3. Songs: I really like Bob Marley and Neil Young right now. I play Bob for Lucas when I want him to chill! Have you ever listened to Matt Nathanson? Matt has some of his music downloaded and I think you'd like it!

    4. We wanted to go somewhere tropical this year and I'd like to try to do that next year. If not over Christmas, then over New Years. I'd like it to be our tradition to go away for Christmas.

    5. Something that I'm proud of doing this week? hmm. My student that I'm supervising got an experiment to work that she's been working on for a few months! I planned ahead for once and had some ideas/help for her, which felt good since I normally feel like I'm too busy and one step behind!
