Quilt # 2

Meet Christina Coin my first coin quilt.

Why: I had lots of 2.5 x 5.75 inch rectangles left over from the fat quarter fabric used in my girly green garden rag quilt. I was also determined to use scraps to make something new and different. Additionally it was another attempt to add pink into our all boy land.....but blue seems more my colour these days. Sorry Christina Coin you too have been shelved.

The fabric: The rectangles are made from left over scraps from a rag quilt previously made (see Girly Green Garden-quilt # 1). The sashing is cream flannel, the back is a fantastic green print and the binding a light pink checker.

How it was made: The rectangles were trimmed to make them as square as possible; I then ended up with two different sizes of rectangles. They were all sewn together and then 6 sashing strips attached. Once all the top was together I realized that I was not going to be able to quilt the way I had planned. Nothing lined up to sew straight lines in the ditch. I am far from a comfortable free motion quilter so I got out the chalk, drew on some straight lines, and tried my luck at straight line sewing. I stitched in the ditch for the fabric strips and made straight lines on the cream sashing. The quilt was squared ( it needed it) and the binding attached. In the end the quilt measured 28"x 26"

This quilt came together very quickly, especially because it is small. I was pleased with my first effort, but do need more practice with straight line sewing.

The name: I wanted to name it something with Coin in it...and somehow Christina Coin just seemed right. Not much of a story there. And that is the end of my pink projects for a while.

I am now off to deal with all that is blue in this house....well actually that is not completely true...I am off to deal with a PINKY eye. Poor O is super sick again. I have sworn off all indoor play structures...can you say virus central.
Cross your fingers he somehow can keep it to himself.
